Wylie Pirates open season with new expectations

The Wylie Pirates, after an 0-3 start last season, rode a 6-1 district record into the playoffs and a district cham­pionship. Although they lost to Pros­per in the first round of the 6A play­offs, it was a successful season for the Pirates in their last season with head coach Bill Howard.

With Howard retired the Pirates will reload behind head coach Jim­my Carter after losing 16 starters. He was promoted from defensive co­ordinator and he coached a defense that the Pirates relied on during their district-run. Coach Carter understood the challenges he faces but believes his team has the pieces to be compet­itive this season.
