The Wylie Pirates are now tied with Prosper, each at 8-3 in District 10-5A, following Friday night’s set of games; Wylie downed Lovejoy 44-35, while Prosper fell 72-62 to McKinney.
McKinney North, which was tied with Prosper for first, now has sole possession of the top spot (9-2) after topping Sherman 76-56. Wylie and Prosper are tied for second, with Wylie East, which beat Denison 57-46, is tied with McKinney for fourth. The top four teams make the postseason, and there are three games remaining in the regular season.
On the girls’ side, Wylie East improved to 6-7 with 49-21 win over Denison. They are tied for fourth with Lovejoy, which beat Wylie 44-31, dropping the Lady Pirates to 5-8 in the standings. The loss pretty much eliminates the Lady Pirates from postseason competition, even if the teams end up in a three-way tie at 6-8 following this Tuesday’s regular-season finales. Lovejoy has beaten Wylie twice this season, while the Lady Pirates and Lady Raiders split their two district games. East has swept Lovejoy, giving them the advantage head-to-head if the teams should end the regular season with identical records.
Wylie East hosts Sherman on Tuesday, while Lovejoy hosts McKinney and Wylie travels to McKinney North. The latter leads 10-5A at 12-1, followed by Prosper (11-2) and McKinney (9-4), with each of those teams having clinched a playoff spot.
