WYLIE — When the Pirates and Raiders grapple Thursday evening; the match will be significant for two reasons.
First, it could be the final regular-season contest, at least for a while, between the two schools, as Wylie will move up to Class 6A during the Feb. 1 redistricting, while East will stay 5A.
More importantly, it’s the final regular-season match for both schools, and their last chance to tune up for postseason competition; it begins Feb. 5 with the district tournament at Lovejoy High School.
Those who survive that affair will move to the Feb. 12-13 regionals in Bryan, and from there, the qualifiers advance to Feb. 19-20 state meet in Houston.
