Battiest, Knapp, Caro honored by 15-5A coaches

Three Lady Raiders were named to the 2017 15-5A All-District team following a season in which Wylie East barely missed making the playoffs.

First-team infielder Taylor Battiest and outfielder Tori Knapp were the top vote-getters for East, while Jeweleeandra Caro made the second team as an infielder.

The outstanding individual awards were spread out among several schools, with Mesquite Poteet’s Brittany Clark being named the MVP, while teammate Makayla Geeslin was the Newcomer of the Year.

Lovejoy’s JoJo McRae was the Offensive Player of the Year, with the Lady Leopards’ Leah Taylor being the Freshman of the Year. Forney’s Savanna DesRochers was the Pitcher of the Year, while the Lady Jackrabbits’ Kameron Wells was the Defensive Player of the Year.

The remaining first-team players were:

• Pitcher — Mya Stevenson of Mesquite Poteet.

• Catcher — Celeste Soliz of Lovejoy.

• Infielders — Kenzee Hessert of Royse City, Emily Welchel of Lovejoy, Alyssa DiFiore of Lovejoy, Jenny McElroy of Forney, Brooke Taylor of North Forney and Amanda Reenan of Highland Park.

• Outfielders — Lacey Mantooth of Royse City and Kylee Ramos of Lovejoy.

The other second-teamers were:

• Pitcher — Andrea Decareau of North Forney.

• Catcher — Karis Hessert of Royse City.

• Infielders — Mallory Lusby of Lovejoy, Halliehannah Hale of Mesquite Poteet, Tatum Stover of Forney, Autumn Colbert of West Mesquite and Brooke Cornelison of North Forney.

• Outfielders — Mackenzie Mitchell of Lovejoy, Amber Busby of North Forney, Hannah Holdboak of Forney, Cassidy Schubert of Forney, Alexa Enriguez of North Forney and Katie Reenan of Highland Park.
