Students prepare healthy snack options for competition.

Wylie ISD is participating in the Kids Teaching Kids competition, sponsored by Medical City Children’s Hospital and the Greater Dallas Restaurant Association. Wylie ISD selected three recipes to submit to the North Texas Kids Teaching Kids cookbook.

In preparation for the contest culinary students worked with a Medical City Children’s Hospital registered dietitian to learn some nutrition basics, how to read food labels and calculate nutrition facts for recipes.

The students took that knowledge and created fun-to-make, fun-to-eat snack recipes featuring fruits and vegetables that elementary school age students can prepare themselves.

The students then prepared their dishes for tasting.
