McMillan Junior High is preparing for the future with $5.646 million in upgrades and renovations. The projects are being funded through the bond proposal that was approved in the 2014 balloting.

Communications Director Ian Halperin said McMillan will be seeing several projects over the next 24 months. Many are to accommodate the increase in student enrollment, as well as allow for new programs.

Beginning in May, work began addressing renovations, security and technology upgrades.

Projects included the installation of hand dryers in all bathrooms, marquee replacements, the installation of a badge system, access control and security cameras, the addition of a projection system in the gym, the addition of wireless access points, network upgrades, a new paging/bell system, a sound system for the competition gym, an updated band hall and choir room sound system and upgraded network switching closets.

Beginning in August the district will install tennis courts for the school and in October repairs to the existing track and major renovations will begin taking form.

According to Halperin, construction projects include the addition of new classrooms, a new orchestra room and an office renovation.

In May 2016, carpets will be replaced, additional sidewalks will be installed, new orchestra instruments will be purchased and floor tiles will be replaced. LED lighting will be installed in the parking lot to meet safety concerns and the digital signage out front will be updated.

In May 2017 the exterior of the building will be painted.

Construction projects throughout the district are under the management of Gallagher Construction Services and PBK Architects.
