As summer winds down and students begin the transition to earlier nights the thought of school supplies and clothing becomes more prevalent. In an effort to make that transition as smooth as possible, the Wylie Education Foundation is preparing for their annual Back-To-School fair.

The Back-To-School outreach program was established in 2006 by School Board Trustee Stacy Gooch. The program has grown exponentially and is now prepared to hand out approximately 1000 backpacks filled with school supplies at their upcoming event.

School supplies, standardized school clothing for secondary students, haircuts and immunizations will be available to attendees.

In order to receive school supplies, both student and parents must be present. Haircuts will be provided by Beth Bell and her associates along with barber Jonathan Robinson. Amy Hillin, WISD health services coordinator, will be providing immunizations. As a reminder, students will not be able to start school unless all immunizations are up to date. Vaccination records can be found on Skyward Family Access.

The Education Foundation is still in need of donations for the event. The most prevalent need is for Crayola Crayons 24 count, #2 Pencils, jumbo glue sticks, black/blue ink pens, Crayola thin markers 10 count, Crayola colored pencils 12 count, backpacks, pencil bags with grommets and dry erase markers.

Online registration is now closed, however families may still register in person at the event. Those registering at the event need to bring a completed registration, available online at wylieisd.net/backtoschool, the parents ID and the latest report card of the student. Proof of one of the following must also be provided; free/reduced lunch recipient, Medicaid, WIC, Lone Star, social security, disability, unemployment or active military.

For information on how you can help contact The Wylie Education Foundation at 972-429-3095. Monetary donations can be mailed to Wylie ISD Education Foundation, PO Box 117, Wylie, TX 75098.

The fair will be held from 8-10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 8 at McMillan Junior High School, 1050 Park Blvd.
