Twelve bound for Boys State

The American Legion Hale-Combest Post 315 recently announced the twelve young men who will be attending the 2015 Texas Boys State at the University of Texas at Austin. The youth conference will be held June 7 through June 12.

Lovejoy High School will be represented by Carson Buckner, Jacob Christopher Mayfield, Jolen Martinez and Steven Sereno. Community High School will be represented by Blaine Morton. Wylie East High School will be represented by Randy Points. Wylie High School will be represented by Timothy VanSanders, Carter Spillyards, Samuel Pybus, Ryland Etten and Alexander Bradley. Wylie Preparatory Academy will be represented by Robert Parker Killian.

The young men will participate in government sessions at the state, county and city levels. Elected officials stand-by as advisors. Some past award winners include Neil Armstrong, Tom Brokaw, Mike Huckabee and Michael Jordan.

In order to be considered for Texas Boys State a candidate must be a male high school student, have successfully completed his junior year, have at least one semester remaining, have not previously attended Boys State, be recommended by his school officials, have parents’/guardians’ permission to attend, be certified by the sponsoring American Legion post, and sign the Boys State Pledge.
