Wylie police and fire departments will be escorting a funeral procession this afternoon for 8-year-old Xander Thomas Wade who died Monday, Sept. 5, after battling various medical conditions.

Xander was sworn in this summer as an honorary officer with Wylie Police Department and was visited several times by members of both police and fire departments. His life and struggles touched the hearts of many in the community.

He was born with six heart defects and other medical conditions and underwent the first of several surgeries when he was eight days old.

A second grade student at Watkins Elementary School, Xander was the son of Ryan and Marsha Wade of Wylie. He is survived by his parents; a brother, Asher; and a sister, Eliana.

Funeral services were set for 4 p.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church of Wylie. The funeral procession will travel on Hwy. 78 between Oak and Eubanks streets at about 6 p.m.
