Wylie City Council is hosting a reception for incoming member Diane Culver and will canvass returns of the May 9 election Wednesday evening, May 20.

The reception is from 5:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. and the special called meeting to canvass election returns starts at 6 p.m. Both will be held at the municipal complex, 300 Country Club Road.

Culver earned 68.17 percent of the vote in the May election to win the Place 2 council post over two other candidates.

A runoff election is set for June 13 for Place 4 on the council. In May 9 balloting incumbent Bennie Jones received 37.03 percent of the vote to set up a runoff with Candy Arrington, who finished second among four candidates. To avoid a runoff, a candidate would have had to get more than 50 percent of the votes.

After votes are canvassed, Culver will take the oath of office.

The council also will select a mayor pro tem at the meeting. Currently serving in that post is Place 1 Councilman Keith Stephens.
