ARLINGTON — If one were to call Wylie East’s 46-43 second-round loss to Mesquite Poteet heartbreaking, it would be an understatement.
Words or phrases such as devastating or punch to the gut would be more appropriate; that’s how the Raider players and coaches likely felt when Angel Sevier’s 26-yard field goal split the uprights with no time left in regulation.
At that moment, one of the best seasons in East football history ended; one that saw East go 9-1 in the regular season — one of those regular-season wins was a 50-41 triumph over Poteet in Week 2 — capture the 10-5A title while sweeping district opposition and then hand The Colony a 71-48 bi-district defeat.
