Lady Raiders lose in bi-district playoff game to Wakeland

by | Nov 3, 2021 | Latest, Sports

After a successful regular season, the Wylie East volleyball team struggled to close sets, losing in a sweep to Wakeland in a bi-district playoff game Tuesday, Nov. 2.

The Lady Raiders managed to keep it close through the first two sets. They led midway through the first set before a 9-4 Wakeland scoring run allowed the Wolverines to take it by five points. Wakeland jumped out to a six-point lead in the second set before a 5-0 scoring run by Wylie East put them within striking distance.

However, the Lady Raiders couldn’t win the final point, dropping the second set 25-23. Wakeland closed the third set on a 10-3 scoring run to win by 12 points, securing the bi-district win.

The Lady Raiders end their season with a 19-15 overall record, including a third-place finish in the district standings. They graduate four seniors from this years’ team: Miranda Howard, Laken Dillon, Grace Christner and Keely Hatchett.
