State of WEDC delivered at chamber luncheon

by | Jul 3, 2019 | Latest

Wylie Chamber of Commerce members heard a brief State of Wylie Economic Development Corporation last week at the June membership luncheon.

The event was held Tuesday, June 25, at Woodbridge Golf Club. Chamber President Mike Agnew welcomed guests and the Rev. Derek Draper offered the invocation and led the pledge of allegiance.

“We are investing into the city of Wylie with funds from people who live outside our city,” WEDC Assistant Director Jason Greiner said in explaining the function of the organization.

Wylie voters approved formation of the WEDC in 1980 and authorized a half-cent sales tax to fund its operations. Greiner pointed out that much of the sales tax income in paid by people who come to Wylie to shop and visit restaurants, bringing money from outside the community.
