Lt. Governor Patrick Announces
Committee Appointments to Select Committee

AUSTIN – Today, Texas Lt. Governor Dan Patrick announced the appointment of seven Senate members to a Select Committee on Property Tax Reform and Relief.

The Select Committee on Property Tax Reform and Relief will travel the state holding public hearings and look for ways to improve the property tax process as well as reduce the burden on property owners. This select committee will report their recommendations to the Finance Committee prior to the 2017 85th Legislative Session.

Just this week, Constitutional Amendment Proposition 1 wasoverwhelmingly passed by Texas voters which will bring meaningful tax relief to property owners. Modifications to the state constitution will also prohibit any future taxation on the sale of real property. Additionally, interim charges are in place that will help make the taxing process more transparent, and make sure voters are informed when their taxes are being increased – and by whom.

The Select Committee on Property Tax Reform and Relief appointments are:

Sen. Paul Bettencourt – Chair
Sen. Brandon Creighton
Sen. Kelly Hancock
Sen. Eduardo A. “Eddie” Lucio, Jr.
Sen. Charles Perry
Sen. Van Taylor
Sen. Carlos Uresti

“I am honored to have been named Chair of the Select Committee on Property Tax Reform and Relief. Our goal is that this committee will hold a robust series of hearings where we listen to what the people of Texas tell us, and seek to find meaningful solutions,” said Bettencourt.

“Texas voters have spoken and they clearly said they want lasting, meaningful tax reform,” said Patrick. “Proposition 1, this Select Committee on Property Tax Reform and Relief, and recently passed legislation as well as Finance Committee interim charges are all part ofa vision for a better Texas.”
