WHS scaring up a good time

Families, students and local residents have shared screams and fear as they traversed the frightening maze at ‘Marauder Fright Fest’ over the last few years. And although the event will once again take place during the Halloween season, nothing will be the same.

The once called ‘Marauder Fright Fest’ has now been renamed ‘The Haunt’ and will be held at Wylie High School with all new props, themes and characters. In honor of the new venue, this year’s theme is pirates.

“We started with a professionally-drafted floor plan designed by Ed Gannon, owner of Something Wicked Productions,” Angie Stephens, event creator and organizer said. “It is ADA-compliant, with emergency exits and made entirely from 4 x 8 framed panels instead of fencing like last year.”

Stephens said the changes added significant labor and cost to the event, but it will be more structurally sound and able to handle the higher traffic anticipated at the venue. The lighting is custom-made and includes some new animatronics.
