“Gerry” (Honey) Anne Whitt of Frisco passed away in the early morning of Tuesday, Oct. 2, after a long and blessed life.
Gerry was born May 5, 1938, in Boston, Massachusetts, to William H. and Gertrude Leonard Geary. They moved to Monahans, Texas, early in Gerry’s childhood. She was raised by Gertrude and Frank and Agnes Higgins (Nana and Grampy). She graduated from Monahans High School in 1956 and left home to attend St. Joseph’s School of Nursing in Fort Worth. She graduated in 1959 and began her nursing career. She later worked as a school nurse for Garland ISD for 30 years.
While at St. Joseph’s, Gerry met the love of her life, Donald E. Whitt of Muenster, Texas. They were married Aug. 30, 1959, and spent the next 63 years together until Don’s passing. Gerry and Don spent many of those years in Wylie raising their four children. The couple were very active parishioners and volunteers at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Wylie. Upon retirement, they created memories traveling together and spending their summers in Ruidoso, New Mexico, the same town where they had their honeymoon. Gerry and Don loved making memories at Whitt Elementary, passing out treats on the first day of school and visiting with students and staff. This honor from Wylie ISD was a very special part of their lives.
Gerry is survived by her three sons, Dan, Carter and Doug; two daughters-in-law, Trish Wallace and Marsha Whitt; her sisters, Sue Ellen Rich and Lynda Goetzman; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Don; her beloved daughter, Andrea Mitchell; her parents, William and Gertrude Geary; and her brother, David Geary.
Many thanks to all the friends and family Don and Gerry had over the years. You were all very special to our family.
