With hearts full of love and sorrow, we share that Carma Mae (Spangler) Lanman passed away peacefully on Aug. 10, 2025, after a courageous 20-year journey with cancer. Surrounded by her devoted family, Carma’s earthly suffering came to a gentle close, and she is now at peace—reunited with those she held dear and missed deeply.
Born Feb. 2, 1947, in Harrisburg, Ohio, Carma made her home in Wylie and Sachse, Texas, where she built a life centered around family, faith, and quiet acts of kindness. She began her working years as a switchboard operator for the General Telephone and Electronics Co., a job she approached with grace, reliability, and a warm smile. Yet Carma’s greatest and most fulfilling role was that of a mother. Raising her four sons was her life’s joy and purpose—a journey marked by unconditional love, patience, and strength.
In later years, Carma brought that same nurturing spirit to the halls of the Wylie Independent School District, working in the Food Service Department for more than 15 years. Her gentle presence and cheerful demeanor brightened the lives of countless students and staff, making her a treasured part of the school community.
Carma was the proud and loving mother of David (Becky), Mark (Karen), Aaron (Nicole) and Patrick (Tara). Her heart swelled with love for her seven grandchildren: Meagan Potter, Katelyn, Lindsey, Brett, Avery, Adam, and Alexis. Though she mourned the loss of her dear husband, William Lanman, and her granddaughter, Alexis, she now joins them in eternal rest and light.
Those who knew Carma knew her love for the simple, beautiful things in life. Butterflies held special meaning for her—symbols of hope, renewal, and grace that reflected her own nature. With gentle strength and quiet perseverance, Carma inspired others with her kindness, humility, and steady presence.
A faithful member of the United Methodist Church in Wylie, Carma lived out her values daily—with compassion, service, and a heart always open to others. Her legacy is not just in the family she raised, but in the lives she touched, the love she gave freely, and the grace with which she lived.
Carma’s memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her—including extended family still in Ohio, cousins, in-laws and friends near and far. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
In honor of Carma’s life and in lieu of flowers, the family kindly invites donations to a cancer research organization or a cancer survivor foundation of your choice—a tribute to her enduring strength, generous spirit, and unwavering hope.
A private inurnment ceremony for family will be held, during which Carma and William will be laid to rest side by side.
