Donald I. “Don” Craig III, 53, of Nevada, Texas, died Thursday, Aug. 7, 2025, at home. Born Jan. 11, 1972, in Charleston, South Carolina, he was the son of Donald and Vonda Elliott Craig of Salisbury, Maryland.
Don graduated from James M. Bennett High School in Salisbury, Maryland. He attended San Jacinto College in Texas. He was employed as a senior claims representative for Broadspire Services Inc., working from home.
Don is survived by his wife, Kelly Crowder Craig of Wylie, Texas; children Justin, Shelby and Juby, also of Wylie; daughter Lauren and Ben Barraza of Huntsville, Alabama; sister Cathy and Eric Fykes of Salisbury, Maryland; brother Tim Craig and Sharon of Milpitas, California; and nephews and nieces Michael, Josh, Amelia and Sedona.
Don always had an adventurous spirit from early childhood all the way through adulthood. He grew up as part of a powerboat racing family, spending time as pit crew and even taking test runs in his father’s hydroplane racing boat. This spirit continued as he grew up through sports: soccer, lacrosse, baseball, wrestling, ice hockey, golf and hunting. He also loved flying, both individually and as an instructor helping others learn the thrill of flying. On his pool league team, Outlaw Mavericks, with the nickname “Ace,” he competed in local 8-ball and 9-ball tournaments, and at nationals in Las Vegas.
He will be missed by all who knew or met him and an extended family of aunts, uncles and cousins.
A celebration of life service will be held at a later date, to be announced. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to your favorite charity.
