Friendship knows no bounds. That statement is especially true for Melissa Gentry-Yzaguirre, a Wylie East High School graduate who donated one of her kidneys last month to save the life of a friend.
Recipient of the life-saving organ was John Barker II of Broken Arrow, Okla., whose kidneys failed last year as a result of an autoimmune disease.
“I was a regular, healthy, exercising person,” Barker, 23, said. As his kidneys failed, he gained 80 pounds of water weight from May until November 2015 when he went on dialysis three times a week.
