From Staff Reports
Girl Scout Troop 3001, made up of Wylie area Cadettes, holds a grand opening Saturday to showcase a project to rehabilitate a fire ring and seating area at Brockdale Park on the western shore of Lake Lavon.
The Silver Project, required to earn the coveted Silver Award, took about 50 hours of work to reconstruct the fire pit and fashion seating out of tree log sections. A fire pit at the site had been rendered unusable and work by the troop now provides a gathering area for Girl Scouts and others to participate in activities.
In completing the project, the Scouts worked during scheduled troop meetings, on weekends and during on-site campouts.
The project was divided into two parts, design and construction of the campfire area, and construction of seating arrangements and a completion party. The party will be at 3 p.m. Saturday.
In addition, the troop built benches and a wood rack that holds about a cord of firewood.
Cadettes are Scouts in the sixth through eighth grades. Troop 3001 is made up of seven girls from the Wylie area.
