Pirates prepare for playoffs

by | Nov 1, 2021 | Latest, Sports

Now healthy, the Wylie Pirates are ready for the playoffs.

Wylie (12-2, 23-16) wrapped up its regular season and District 9-6A schedule with a 3-0 (25-16, 25-15, 25-7) win over Rowlett.

The Pirates got excellent play from its front line, with Cherish Okpara getting 12 kills, Karson Barclow with nine kills and Jordyn Agee with six kills in the match. Wylie also had 14 aces in the match, bringing its total 246 for the season.

The victory locked Wylie into the second-place finish in the district standings, pitting the Pirates against Mesquite Horn for the bi-district playoff round. Wylie plays Horn Tuesday night at Rockwall at 7 p.m.

Wylie and Horn have battled on the court twice this season, with both sides winning a game. Wylie defeated Horn 3-1 on the first game of the season, while Horn battled back to defeat Wylie 2-0 in a tournament game on Aug. 28.

The Pirates will have to prepare for Makaila Harris. The strong outside hitter for the Lady Jaguars had 20 kills in the two matches against Wylie this season.

A full recap of Wylie’s playoff game against Horn will be available online Tuesday night for The Wylie News.
