A 44-year-old woman from Wylie, Denise McLean, died last week when she fell from an observation point at Royal Gorge Bridge near Canon City, Colo.

McLean and her 12-year-old son were sightseeing at the bridge, a major Colorado tourist spot, when she slipped and plunged off a cliff, Canon City Police reported. The death was ruled accidental.

The accident was reported to police Monday evening, June 29, and search operations were started, but suspended because of darkness. A search and rescue team located the body Tuesday morning about 400 feet below the observation point.

The Royal Gorge Bridge is the longest suspension bridge in the United States, spanning a gorge 1,000 feet above the Arkansas River.

Memorial services for McLean were held over the weekend.
