Babies first few years are filled with milestones. Parental support impacts the rate these milestones are achieved.

Gross motor milestones include rolling, sitting, crawling, and walking. An easy way to help your baby with gross motor skills is to provide supervised tummy time. Starting when your baby is a newborn, tummy time should be provided for a few minutes a day. Tummy time can be slowly increased in short increments with a goal of one hour daily by 2-3 months.

During tummy time, the muscles in the trunk and neck are strengthened. Baby walkers, jumping toys, and exersaucers do not help strengthen the muscles used for walking. It is safer to avoid these toys.
