Wylie East offensive coordinator Jerry Gardner was hired as the next head football coach of Round Rock McNeil High School on June 3.
Matt Stepp of Dave Campbell’s Texas Football was first to report on the news. Gardner takes over the Mavericks after serving as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Wylie East, where he helped to guide a high-powered Raiders offense to consecutive 10-win seasons.
Wylie East averaged 34.7 points per game in 2025, a season in which the Raiders posted their first 10-0 regular season in program history. The Raiders’ offense has flourished under Gardner, who was Wylie East’s offensive coordinator for the last four years. The Raiders are 39-7 over that span and have averaged 38.5 points.
Gardner brings head coaching and coordinator experience from both Texas and Oklahoma. He previously served as the head coach at Glenpool High School in Oklahoma and has also worked in Plano ISD. A Lone Grove, Oklahoma, native, Gardner, played at the University of Central Oklahoma.
