Twelve seniors in the Class of 2026 at Wylie East High School put pen to paper and signed a National Letter of Intent during a ceremony that was held in the Williams Center on May 13.

Five of those signees are committed to playing soccer in college.

Hannah Warren, Isabelle Alacron-Vo and Joel Gonzalez all signed with East Texas Baptist University. Garrison Bal is bound for Colby-Sawyer College. Dylan Falay made it official with Midwestern State University.

Alacron-Vo, a midfielder, and Warren, a forward, helped lead the Lady Raiders to a fourth consecutive appearance in a regional final this year. Both players were later selected to the District 9-6A second team.

Falay, a midfielder, cracked the all-district first team on the boys’ side. Bal and Gonzalez, both midfielders, were named to the second team.

Three basketball players announced their intentions. Guard Sharmayne Jones will continue her academic and athletic endeavors at Stanton University and guard Sidney Sanders is a Hill College signee. Forward Mikiyas Abiy will play men’s basketball for Curry College.

Abiy was one of the most improved players for the Wylie East Raiders. One of his best games came in the bi-district round of the Class 6A Division II playoffs against Tyler Legacy, scoring 20 points in a 64-53 loss. He was later named to the All-9-6A second team.

Meanwhile, Jones and Sanders helped lead the Lady Raiders to another playoff appearance and 10th consecutive season with a winning record. Sanders was later named the district’s Defensive Player of the Year, and Jones earned a selection on the second team.

Less than a month after earning a berth in the Region II-6A track and field meet in the 300-meter hurdles, MaKyrra Ford announced that she will continue her track career at Southeastern. Roman Lopez, who ran to 14th place at the District 9-6A cross country meet and helped the Raiders earn a team berth in the regional meet, will remain close to home and compete for Dallas Baptist University.

Two members of Wylie East’s cheerleading team will take their talents to the collegiate level.

Brooke Bickley signed with the University of Texas. Kayden Cortez inked with Grambling State University.

Cortez overcame adversity and setbacks during his time at Wylie East and had a great senior season with the Raiders. This summer, he will join the National Cheerleading Association staff.

Bickley, a three-year varsity captain, is an NCA top 10 “Go Be Great” Finalist, scholar athlete, all-state honoree and a Worlds Medalist.
