When it comes to success on the golf course and the soccer pitch, Wylie has been one of the most consistent schools in Collin County.
This past season was no different.
Both the Pirate boys and girls soccer teams advanced to the Region II-6A Division I semifinals, while the Wylie boys and girls golf teams made the regional tournament, with the Lady Pirates finishing as the District 9-6A champion for the fourth consecutive year.
The Wylie News will examine each sport and highlight the accomplishments of each team.

The biggest trait that head coach Jody Aldridge admired about the Pirates was their depth.
From the top of Wylie’s lineup to the bottom, Aldridge felt there wasn’t that much separating his golfers.
Wylie’s balance was a huge reason why the Pirates placed second in the district and qualified for regionals.
At the district tournament, Carson Nash led the way with a 36-hole score of 151, good for sixth place. Cooper Knapp captured seventh with a 154. Declan Collett carded a 36-hole score of 159. Kannon Freudinger finished with a 160, and Carson Krumbholz had a 164.
At the regional tournament, Wylie placed 11th with a 651.
Collett and Nash tied for 42nd with a 159, Freudinger took 53rd with a 163, Knapp placed 64th with a 170 and Krumbholz finished in 68th place with a 175.

Wylie continues to be a program on the rise.
After not making the playoffs for more than a decade, the Pirates earned back-to-back postseason berths in 2024 and 2025.
Wylie took things two steps further this year by making the Region II-6A Division I semifinals. Although the Pirates suffered a season-ending 2-1 loss to eventual state champion Klein Cain in Georgetown to finish with an 18-3-6 record, this season marked a big step forward for the squad.
The Pirates had to replace their top two goal scorers from last season’s team, Cristian Aviles and Osato Enabulele, to graduation. Aviles and Enabulele combined for 25 of Wylie’s 54 goals. But the Pirates found consistency from seniors Logan Montgomery, Zach Alshali and freshman Luke Montgomery.
Alshali improved from six goals his junior season to 21 as a senior and was named the district’s MVP. Senior Logan Montgomery chipped in seven goals, while his brother, Luke, a freshman, provided the Pirates with a huge source of offense during the playoffs. Luke scored six of his 13 goals in the playoffs, three coming in a 5-2 win over Rockwall-Heath in bi-district.
Freshman goalkeeper Cristiano Reyna, who won an early-season competition to earn the starting job, was tabbed the district’s Co-Defensive Newcomer of the Year.

One year after making the state tournament as a team for the first time in program history, Wylie came up just short in its quest for a second consecutive appearance.
The Lady Pirates shot a 688 for seventh place at the regional tournament, held at Eagle’s Bluff Country Club in Bullard.
Incoming junior Serina Armendariz, who was crowned regional champion as a freshman, led the charge for Wylie at this year’s regional, carding a 150 for 10th place. She was a state tournament alternate.
Senior Nakshatra Sivaram turned in the second-lowest score for the Lady Pirates with a 169, good for 29th place. Senior Reia Armendariz shot a 173 for 36th place.
Incoming junior Emma Tran tied for 62nd with a 200, incoming sophomore Caroline Scully was 64th with a 202, and incoming junior Anya Briar finished in a three-way tie for 69th with a 213.
Wylie repeated as 9-6A champion after carding a score of 865.
Serina Armendariz repeated as the individual district champion with a 150.
Sivaram (second place, 167) and Reia Armendariz (fourth, 175), also showcased the Lady Pirates’ experience, while Tran (eighth, 186) and Scully (187) both carded solid efforts, especially on the first day.
Girls soccer
Wylie girls soccer team had a new voice at the top.
Assistant Shelby Ternus was promoted to head coach following the resignation of Chris Bezner.
Ternus built on what Bezner had done, guiding the Lady Pirates to a 20-7 record and appearance in the regional semifinals.
Wylie emerged victorious with a hard-fought 3-1 double-overtime win over Rockwall-Heath in bi-district, thanks to two late goals by junior Kennedy Butler.
The Lady Pirates got a hat trick from senior Maci Hatzenbuehler in a 5-1 rout of Waco Midway in the area round. However, Wylie’s season ended after a 1-0 loss to Grand Oaks in the regional semifinals.
Butler was named the district’s Offensive Player of the Year after the season, and senior Taylor Kelly earned Midfielder of the Year.
