The Wylie and Wylie East baseball teams extended their streak of playoff qualifications this season.
Coaches in District 9-6A took note of their success and rewarded all three programs with multiple selections on the all-district team.
The Wylie Pirates had nine players earn their way onto the prestigious all-district team, including one superlative winner.
Sophomore third baseman Noah Smith was named the district’s Newcomer of the Year. He set the table well at the top of the Pirates’ lineup, hitting a whopping .531 during district play with 26 hits, including 20 singles, four doubles and two triples, 12 RBIs and 22 runs scored. During the bi-district round against Rockwall, Smith finished with four hits and scored three runs.
Senior pitcher/infielder Chase Martin, senior catcher Preston Camp and junior left fielder Koji Paul were selected to the first team. Senior pitcher/infielder Wyatt Wynne, senior pitcher Cooper Watts, junior center fielder Cullum Doan and sophomore first baseman Aiden Beck were placed on the second team. Senior shortstop Riddick McClelland was named to the honorable-mention team.
Wylie East also had nine players earn selections on the all-district team.
Senior pitchers Lukas Harold and Trent Jones, as well as their batterymate, junior catcher Matthew O’Neill, were recognized on the first team. Senior center fielder Brandon Johnson, junior left fielder Carter Covington and freshman first baseman Will Thomas were also named to the first team.
Junior shortstop Parker Brunson, sophomore right fielder Jaxon Ylda and senior pitcher Levi Scroggin were placed on the second team.
