Coaches in District 9-6A recently met to vote on the boys soccer all-district teams.
Wylie senior forward Zach Alshali was the unanimous selection for District 9-6A MVP. Alshali scored 21 goals in 22 matches and played a key role in leading the Pirates to the Region II-6A Division I semifinals.
Alshali was one of four superlative winners for the Pirates. Senior midfielder/wing Logan Montgomery was named the 9-6A Utility Player of the Year. His younger brother, Luke, a freshman, was named Offensive Newcomer of the Year. Freshman goalkeeper Cristiano Reyna earned Co-Defensive Newcomer of the Year.
Senior midfielders Diego Garcia and Sebastian Sanchez, senior defender Gabriel Reyez and junior Carson Black were named to the first team. Seniors Bharath Arulkumar and Talan Weston, junior Jonathan Kassa and sophomore Edil Quiroz-Medina were named to the second team. Juniors Eric Schuster and Simon Johnson, along with senior Ryan Carroll, earned honorable-mention honors.
Wylie East senior midfielder Dylan Falay and senior center back Ethan Henderson were named to the first team. Senior midfielders Garrison Bal and Joel Gonzalez earned second-team honors. Senior goalkeeper Elijah Thompson, junior center back Max Kim and freshman forward Braylon Dyess were selected for honorable mention.
On the girls’ side, Wylie junior Kennedy Butler was named the District 9-6A Offensive Player of the Year. She scored two goals in overtime in a 3-1 win over Rockwall-Heath in bi-district and finished the season with 31 goals. Senior Taylor Kelly was named Midfielder of the Year.
Senior midfielder Maci Hatzenbuehler, senior goalkeeper Melissa Gonzalez, freshman defender Sierra Coleman, junior defender Jessie Johnson and senior midfielder Marlene Reyna were selected to the first team. Freshman defender Zoe Rohrbach, junior forward Ella Knauss, senior goalkeeper Georgia Christian, senior midfielder Camryn Sellers and junior forward Ronelyse Hartfield were named to the second team. Senior defender Ari Johnson, senior midfielder Paige Orr and senior forward/midfielder Savy Pickens earned honorable-mention honors.
Wylie East had two superlative winners. Senior Trystan Wischnewsky was named Defensive Player of the Year. She also scored a goal in Wylie East’s 3-1 loss to Forney in the Region II-6A Division I final. Freshman Sarah Schwarte was named Defensive Newcomer of the Year.
Senior defender Madison Akers, senior forward Nikki Coleman, junior midfielder Sophie Preston, freshman defender Ryleigh Striker and senior forward Brooklyn Reiter were named to the first team.
Earning second-team honors were senior midfielder Isabelle Alarcon-Vo, senior forward Hannah Warren, senior goalkeeper Addyson Lomax, freshman midfielder Kendall Weston and junior midfielder Laila Young. Junior midfielder Abby Otsuki, junior goalkeeper Hailey Fincher and sophomore forward Seyi Ajakaiye received honorable-mention honors.
