PLANO — There’s nothing remarkable about the 2016 Wylie baseball team, other than the Pirates just win.
They did so again this past weekend at John Paul II High School, where the maroon white swept Royse City 13-3 and 4-2 in a Class 5A, Region II area-round series. That win improved the Pirates’ record to 27-2-1 overall, including being 4-0 in the playoffs, and sets up a regional quarterfinal date this weekend with District 10-5A foe Prosper. The Eagles are the defending state champ, but they also fell twice this season, 5-1 and 4-3, to Wylie in district play.
Game 1 is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Plano West, with Game 2 set for 7:30 p.m. Friday at the same location.
The third game, if necessary, will be played 1 p.m. Saturday at Plano West. The series winner will face either Whitehouse or Corsicana in the Class 5A, Region II semifinals.
