School records broken at area meet

ROYSE CITY – Coming off strong team performances at the District 9-6A track and field meet, Wylie and Wylie East elevated their efforts at last Thursday’s Area 9-6A/10-6A meet at Royse City ISD Stadium, with each school setting at least one school record.

Wylie East set five school records.

Toi Ardoin broke the previous record in the boys 100-meter dash with a first-place time of 10.26, placed second in the 200 (21.81) and teamed with Inobiong Ekpo, Charles Perry and Rukevwe Eruvwetaghware to take third in the 4×100 (41.57).

Egypt Baxter set a school record in the girls 200 with a winning time of 24.8. Oluwaseyi Ajakaiye set the school record in the girls 400 with a second-place time of 57.2. Landry Titsworth won the area title in the long jump with a school-record leap of 19 feet, 5 inches and added a third-place finish in the 100 hurdles (14.7).

Wylie East advanced 19 entries to the Region II-6A meet.

The Lady Raiders scored 130 team points to win the team title, led by sophomore Evangeline Williams, who scored 20 points with victories in the 1,600 (5:01.48) and 3,200 (11:16.33). Senior Madison Akers placed second in both the 800 (2:16.27) and 1,600 (5:03.58).

Junior Elliana Young won the high jump with a clearance of 5-7.

Senior MaKyra Ford placed third in the 300 hurdles (45.04) and helped lead Wylie East to second-place finishes in both the 4×100 (47.43) and 4×400 (3:54.8). Ford teamed with Baxter, Aaiyah Progue and Alauna Booker in the 4×100 and with Booker and Ajakaiye in the 4×400.

On the boys side, junior Tyree Washington won the triple jump (48-6). Junior Porter Cantrell placed second in the discus (145-10), sophomore Hudson Sepe took second in the pole vault (14-0) and sophomore Kaleab Endale finished third in the 3,200 (9:36).

Wylie broke one school record and advanced nine entries to the regional meet in Waco. The girls 4×200 relay of senior Jaida Simpson, sophomore Ida Varghese, senior Taylor Williams and sophomore Madison Kemp ran a 1:41.79 to place fourth.

Senior Simi Shodunke took third in the triple jump with a leap of 38-3.

Senior Brady Kemp qualified for regionals in the 1,600 (second, 4:18.63) and 800 (fourth, 1:57.39). Senior Zach Brumfield added another regional qualification in the 800 with a second-place finish (1:52.22).

Senior Cash Nweze took second in the high jump (6-4) and sophomore Noah Smith placed fourth in the pole vault (14-0).

Aaron Lewis earned second place in the 400-meter dash (47.96) and teamed with Bryce Ogola, Aiden Harlow and Camden Love to finish fourth in the 4×400 (3:19.57).
