A third suspect has been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of a teenager near Dodd Park, according to the Wylie Police Department.

Police said Anna resident Jakori Levi surrendered to the Anna Police Department on Friday, April 24, after an arrest warrant charging him with capital murder was obtained in the death of 17-year-old Ty’Ron Kuria.

Levi is being held in the Collin County Detention Center.

The arrest follows the earlier apprehension of two Anna men, Jermey Butler and Valquan Harris, who were taken into custody on capital murder warrants stemming from the April 16 shooting.

Police announced Butler and Harris were arrested April 20 in Anna and transported to the Wylie city jail.

Chief Anthony Henderson previously praised officers and detectives involved in the case.

“I am thankful for the officers and detectives in the Wylie Police Department who worked every day to determine what took place near Dodd Park,” Henderson said in a statement. “Their work resulted in the arrest of those responsible for the death of Ty’Ron. We remain committed to continuing our investigation until this case is ready to be sent to the Collin County District Attorney’s Office for prosecution.”

The department said it also appreciates the assistance of its law enforcement partners in the arrests of the three suspects.

Sgt. Donald English previously said officers responded shortly after 6 p.m. Thursday, April 16, to reports of shots fired on the northeast corner of Country Club Road and Park Boulevard.

“Multiple witnesses reported hearing several shots being fired and several males running in various directions,” English said.

Responding officers found Kuria suffering from gunshot wounds. Wylie Fire-Rescue personnel provided life-saving measures at the scene before transporting him to a regional hospital.

Despite those efforts, Kuria was pronounced dead at the hospital, police said.

Kuria was a junior at Wylie ISD Achieve Academy, Principal Janet Wyatt said in a message to students and families.

“We extend our deepest condolences to Ty’Ron’s family, friends and all who knew and loved him,” Wyatt said. “Our hearts and prayers are with them during this incredibly difficult time.”

Counseling services were made available for students, with additional counselors on campus to provide support.
