The Wylie Walmart community stepped up to celebrate one of its most recognizable faces, longtime associate Duc Truong, on the fifth anniversary of “Duc Truong Day,” first proclaimed by the city of Wylie in 2021.

Associates, vendors, local dignitaries, first responders and community members gathered Sunday, July 13, in the Walmart parking lot for the celebration, which included vendor booths, food trucks, music, a DJ and a car show featuring full-size Hot Wheels replicas—Truong’s favorite.

Truong, now in his 15th year with Walmart as a people greeter, was joined by his mother, who captured much of the event on camera.

During the ceremony, Store Manager Shane Deal thanked the community for supporting the event and recognizing Truong’s daily impact on both customers and fellow associates.

“We’re here today to celebrate one of our incredible associates, Duc. If you don’t know Duc, you should,” Deal said. “He greets everybody. He speaks to them with kindness. When he asks how they’re doing, he genuinely wants to know.”
