Wylie City Council moved one step closer to placing a bond package before voters this November after reaching consensus Tuesday on a proposed $100.5 million package centered on public safety, downtown improvements, parks and public works projects.
During a lengthy work session, council members discussed how potential projects should be grouped on the ballot before directing city staff to prepare proposition language for formal consideration at the council’s next meeting. The proposal includes four separate bond propositions totaling $100.5 million, though approximately $10 million of the public works component would ultimately be supported through the city’s utility fund rather than property taxes.
Mayor Matthew Porter proposed organizing the package into four propositions: $25 million for renovations and expansion of public safety facilities, $25.5 million for downtown improvements and the completion of Sachse Road improvements, $30 million for public works facilities and $20 million for park projects.
