In January, Wylie ISD advanced science students in grades 3 to 5, worked hard as they participated in the district wide science fair.

Vince Venditto, 5-8 Science Learning Specialist, and Tracy Halligan, K-4 Science Learning Specialist, judged over 1,700 science fair projects at the 10 elementary and three intermediate schools.

Awards were presented to a 1st, 2nd, 3rd place and Honorable Mention winners at each campus for the three grade levels.

“Each of these winners were taken to Wylie East High School to compete against the winners from each of the campuses,” Halligan said. “We had district curriculum staff judge each of the projects using a rubric that evaluated their use of the scientific method.”

District Science Fair winners included; in 1st place, Adam Kotrla, Draper Intermediate; Kelan Johnson, Watkins Elementary and Molly Halligan, Cox Elementary.

The 2nd place winners included Natalie Parra, Whitt Elementary; Laurie Ann Wilson, Smith Elementary and Kinley Clark, Harrison Intermediate.

The 3rd place winners included Devan Stigall, Watkins Elementary; Christopher Brannick, Davis Intermediate and Abby Maxwell, Smith Elementary.
