As the school year comes to a close, a new journey is just beginning for Camryn Sellers, Class of 2026 valedictorian, and Kyler Eiben, salutatorian, of Wylie High School. The future Texas A&M students say they are looking forward to living in a college environment, and credit the relationships built during high school for preparing them for this moment.

Camryn plans to major in applied mathematics with a minor in business.

“I also really like interior design and architecture, so I am currently interested in real estate,” she said.

Math classes have been among Camryn’s favorites throughout school, along with AP Chemistry and English in high school.

One of Kyler’s favorite subjects was AP Physics where she had a class with friends, a great teacher and a “rewarding” feeling when solving a difficult problem. She plans to major in psychology as a pre-nursing student.

“I have always been really interested in understanding how our brains work and what motivates our behavior, and I think psychology provides a very good background for understanding patients in the field of nursing,” Kyler said.

Both students decided to pursue sports as hobbies in college, but each expressed gratitude for the experiences gained through athletics and extracurricular activities in high school. The valedictorian and salutatorian earned high GPAs while involved in multiple activities and organizations.

Camryn’s weighted GPA is 5.92 and Kyler’s is 5.9.

“Freshman year, I was advised to narrow down my extracurriculars and choose one path,” Kyler said, “but I am so grateful for the amount of activities

I was involved in and all the different memories and experiences I have gained as a result.”

In addition to competing in four years of varsity cross country and distance track, Kyler served as chapter president on the VEX Robotics team and competed in SkillsUSA. Her extensive club participation included the Police Club, National Technical Honor Society, Parent Teacher Student Association, and student council. She and Camryn were in the National Honor Society.

The valedictorian had two years of experience on both the junior varsity and varsity soccer team. Camryn also played in the wind symphony and competition marching band. Band contests were highlights of her high school experience.

“On a lot of competition days, you wake up early and are pretty much on a bus all day before getting back to the school around midnight, but somehow, it’s so fun to perform and spend time with your friends all day,” she said.

The two seniors said they were inspired by friends and instructors during their school years. The teacher who inspired Kyler the most was Dylan Johnson, her Algebra II teacher.

“He pushed me to grow academically and personally through his constant support and motivation, and he is an all-around great person,” she said.

Camryn said her most inspirational teachers represent different phases of her education. Her fifth and sixth-grade math teacher, Dena Murray, encouraged her to ask questions and let her curiosity go beyond what would be on the test. Leny Philipose, who taught Humanities I and II, created a space that Camryn found engaging and fun while also helping her become a better English student.

The years Camryn and Kyler spent in Wylie High School will culminate in a graduation ceremony at 7 p.m. Saturday, May 23, at the Credit Union of Texas Event Center in Allen.

Both the valedictorian and salutatorian encourage younger students to invest time in activities.

“Get involved in just one or two extracurriculars that you love, and though it can be stressful at times, those commitments will motivate you to work hard in everything you do,” Camryn said.
