A large signing class of 18 seniors from Wylie High School put pen to paper with their respective colleges of choice Monday morning during a signing ceremony at Montgomery Center.
Five signees were in football. Brady Wolfe and Joshua Breitenstein will remain teammates starting this fall at Hendrix College. Alejandro Morales made it official with Wayland Baptist University, Dylan Hawthorne signed with Lamar University, and Travis Ramon announced his decision to play for Ottawa University Arizona.
One month after the Lady Pirates soccer team made an appearance in the regional semifinals, four players announced the next step in their athletic and academic careers. Melissa Gonzalez will compete for Texas A&M Texarkana. Maci Hatzenbuehler signed with Southeast Missouri State, Arianna Johnson inked with Dallas College Richland Campus, and Demi Arakelian will stay local and play for Dallas College Northlake.
Wylie’s boys soccer team, which also was a regional semifinalist, had three signees. Ryan Carroll inked with Hendrix College. Logan Montgomery and Talan Weston will remain in Texas and compete for the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor.
Later this week, Nash Cooper and Wyatt Wynne will look to help lead Wylie’s baseball team to a bi-district playoff series victory against Rockwall. On Monday, they made their future intentions known. Wynne signed a National Letter of Intent with Northern Oklahoma College at Enid, and Cooper inked with NHTI – Concord’s Community College.
Julia Barta, who recently helped lead the Wylie Pirates softball team to another district title, will play in college for National Park College.
Henry Stark, who played a key role in helping the Wylie boys basketball team win the District 9-6A title and reach the area round of the Class 6A Division I playoffs, signed with the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy.
Kinsley Ferguson, who earned sixth place in the district cross country meet as a senior, will run collegiately for Texas A&M Texarkana.
Reia Armendariz is bound for Mount Mercy University in girls golf. A key player for the Lady Pirates golf team, she helped lead Wylie to its fourth consecutive district title this year and its first state tournament appearance in program history last year.
