It was perfect fishing weather as hundreds of young anglers ringed the pond at Murphy City Hall for the 12th Rainbow Trout Roundup. The event has been held annually since 2014 except for 2021, when it was canceled because of the COVID pandemic.
Skies were sunny and the temperature in the 70s as three age groups vied for the 2,000 trout stocked in the pond by the Texas Parks & Wildlife Department.
The youngest group, 6 years old and under, wore blue stickers and began the event at 9 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 28. Two older groups,7 to 12 and 13to 17 also had one hour each to fish.
