Wylie senior Logan Montgomery made a 27-yard field goal with 25 seconds remaining to lift the Pirates to a 38-35 win over North Garland on Friday from Williams Stadium.
Junior running back Daylon Gordon powered the Pirates (1-2 overall, 1-0 District 9-6A) with 229 rushing yards on 38 carries with three touchdowns, while junior quarterback Jabriran Blake added 140 rushing yards and two touchdowns.
Wylie’s 368 rushing yards proved to be the difference in a game in which the Pirates overcame four, seven-point deficits and outscored North Garland 17-7 in the fourth quarter.
Blake’s 25-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter broke a 28-28 tie.
North Garland responded with a 33-yard touchdown pass from Christian Hampton to Juju Minor to level the score at 35-35 with 4:30 left.
Hampton accounted for five touchdowns (three pass, two rush) to lead the way for the Raiders.
Wylie will look to make it two straight wins next Friday when Sachse (2-1, 1-0) visits Wylie ISD Stadium.
