Wylie East and McKinney Boyd got in just two quarters of football on Friday because of a two-hour lightning delay prior to the start of the game and another storm that rolled through the area at halftime.

But for those fans at McKinney ISD Stadium that stayed, they were treated to an offensive showcase.

The Raiders and Broncos combined for 575 total yards, but it was a 19-yard touchdown catch by sophomore Jonathan Utubor with 59 seconds remaining in the first half that allowed Wylie East to emerge with a 28-24 win.

McKinney Boyd got a field goal from Grant Nill as time expired to end the first half, but that would be the final score of the night as the game was called at halftime.

Senior quarterback Jaiden McLemore fueled a high-powered Raiders’ offensive attack, completing 17-of-20 passes for 226 yards and three touchdowns. More than half of that total output was hauled in by senior wide receiver Amarean Porter, who had 11 catches for 135 yards and one touchdown. Utubor and junior tight end Matthew O’Neill also had a touchdown catch.

Junior Victor Ekpo finished with 55 rushing yards on six carries to power Wylie East’s running game.

Wylie East (2-0) will host Lakeview Centennial (0-2) in its District 9-6A opener at 7 p.m., Friday, Sept. 12, at Wylie ISD Stadium.
