Strong showing for Raiders at DubEast Invitational

Wylie East’s cross-country team performed well Friday morning against a strong field in its home meet, the DubEast Invitational. The Raider boys captured third place in the team standings with 81 points.

It was a three-team battle for the top spot, with just 15 points separating the contenders. Wylie East finished 15 points behind team champion Prosper Walnut Grove (66) and five points behind second-place Frisco Wakeland (76).

Sophomore Kaleab Endale turned in the top time for Wylie East, clocking a 16:04, good for sixth place. Senior Kirubel Feyissa also placed in the top 10, finishing ninth in 16:22. Senior John Middleton was 16th in 16:36. Senior Roman Lopez placed 26th in 17:01. Carter Roberts, also a senior, finished 29th with a 17:13. Sophomore Jaden Parish took 51st in 18:12.

Wylie East crowned a champion in the boys’ junior-varsity elite division.

Senior Nathnael Kebede won the individual title with a time of 17:10.

The Raiders also received a breakout performance from freshman Fraol Endale, who finished fourth in 18:38.

Another freshman, Isaac Pretus, placed 17th in 19:26.

Junior Damean Santamaria was just outside the top 20, finishing 23rd in 19:39. Sophomore Keller Trussell took 33rd in 19:57. Junior Lucas Newton placed 58th in 20:38, followed by sophomore Carson Scholz in 61st with a 20:44. Senior Levi Young was 68th in 20:56.2, just ahead of teammate Holden Ring, who placed 69th in 20:56.4. Sophomore Lucas Ansell took 76th in 21:14.

On the girls’ side, senior Madison Akers — last year’s District 9-6A champion — turned in a strong performance at Founders Park, site of the district meet. She finished third in the varsity race with a time of 18:55.

Sophomore Isabelle Price was the next-fastest Lady Raider, placing 27th in 20:49. Junior Addison Ziem and senior Layla Talbott also finished in the top 50 — Ziem in 47th (21:45), followed by Talbott in 49th (21:48). Sophomore Reagan Tolar took 59th in 22:26. Senior Alexis Schmidt placed 66th in 22:38, and senior Madison Edwards was 77th in 23:20.

The Lady Raiders finished seventh overall with 170 points. Frisco Wakeland won the girls’ team title with 64 points. J.J. Pearce and Rockwall each scored 106 to tie for second place.
