ALLEN — A classic example of power versus speed took place last Friday at Allen’s Eagle Stadium.

It was there that Wylie East (power) and Lancaster (speed) battled in a Class 5A, Region II, Div. II regional semifinal for the right to play in the regional final. In the end, it was speed that prevailed 27-20, but not before strength, in this case the Raiders, gave it quite a scare.

Lancaster moves on to face Mesquite Poteet, a 15-5A rival of East’s, 7:30 p.m. Friday in the Region II final at Midlothian. The Pirates, who beat the Raiders earlier this season in district play, advanced after outscoring South Oak Cliff 45-37 this past Friday in the other Region II semifinal.

The semifinal loss ended another excellent gridiron campaign for the Raiders, who finished 8-5 overall (5-2 in District 15-5A), and were bi-district and area-round champs.
