Raiders, Panthers head to state

Pool play kicks off Friday afternoon in College Station

COLLEGE STATION — This year marks the 17th edition of the 7-on-7 state tournament.

It all started in 1998 with just one division: Class 5A-under schools. The tournament was split up into two separate division beginning in 2007.

Div. I consists of 6A-5A and Div. II is 4A-3A-2A and private schools.

This season’s tourney will have a pair of local schools, as Wylie East and Plano East will each be in Div. I.

Wylie East punched their ticket to the Adidas sponsored event at Veterans Park Athletic Complex after ending up in the top two spots in the Mansfield qualifier.

Plano East advanced after qualifying during a State Qualilfying Tournament at Plano West.

Wylie East will be part of Pool I, along with Austin Bowie, San Angelo Central and Tomball Memorial later this week at College Station.

On Friday, the Raiders play at 2 p.m. (Memorial), 4 p.m. (Central) and 6 p.m. (Bowie).

Plano East will compete in Pool F with Belton, Katy and Mission Veterans, with games slated for 2 p.m. (Veterans), 4 p.m. (Belton) and 6 p.m. (Katy).

Both local programs are guaranteed at least one game on Saturday.

I field are A&M Consolidated, Arlington, Plano West, Houston Strake Jesuit, Cedar Hill, College Station, Cy Falls, Edcouch-Elsa, Katy Cinco Ranch, Desoto, Somerset, Temple, Abilene Cooper, Forney, Klein Collins, Westlake, El Paso El Dorado, Lake Travis, Langham Creek, Mansfield Summit, Cy Springs, Plugerville Hendrickson, El Paso Montwood, Plano, Arlington Lamar, Humble Atascocita, Coppell, Houston Stratford, Abilene, Dickinson, Round Rock McNeil, Southlake, Cy Fair, San Antonio O’Connor, Round Rock, Rowlett, Alamo Heights, Houston Lamar, Lovejoy, Tyler Lee, Pearland Dawson, Lufkin, Laredo United, Waxahachie, Byron Nelson, Mesquite Horn, Lindale, Manvel, Fort Worth All Saints, Colleyville, Richmond George Ranch, The Woodlands, Lake Dallas, Pearland, Plainview and Port Neches-Groves.
