Both Wylie ISD high schools will be sending a representative to the 2015 state track meet in Austin.
For Wylie, it will be senior Andrea Nwachukwu, who finished second in the girls’ triple jump at the Class 5A Region II meet this past weekend at the University of Texas-Arlington, while East will be represented by sophomore shot putter Halie Daniel, who also finished second at the same meet.
Nwachukwu leaped 38-05.75 to finish behind Mansfield’s Summit Ivy Walker (38-11.50). Daniel powered her way to Austin with a toss of 41-04, finishing behind Deja Erskine of Lancaster (43-05.25).
The state meet will be May 15-16 at the University of Texas. The top two finishers in each regional event qualify for state, as does the best third-place finisher in each event out of all four regions.
Other local competitors who took part in the regional meet were Wylie junior Fafa Apedo (15th in the girls’ long jump at 16-04), Wylie East’s girls’ 1,600 relay team (seventh at 4:01.17), Wylie’s girls’ 800 relay team (11th at 1:44.41), Wylie East sophomore Theresa Simmons (ninth in girls’ 1,600 at 5:40.60) and Wylie freshman Anayah Washington (sixth in the triple jump at 37-01.75).
Boys
Wylie senior Jordan Calais finished 13th (6-0) in the boys’ high jump, while sophomore Ryan Lee was seventh in the 1,600 (4:33.06) and the 3,200 (9:47.71). The Pirates’ Donald Satchell, a senior, was 14th in the long jump (19-09), while another senior, Carson Gause, was 10th in the 800 (2:02.68). The 800 relay team took ninth (1:30.67) in the finals.
