The Wylie United Methodist Church held their annual Vacation Bible School last week welcoming hundreds of children and approximately 100 volunteers, all helping to make the event a success.

This year’s theme was “G-Force.” Children enjoyed singing, dancing, praising, making tornadoes, floating boats, acting out bible stories, scooter races, a hula hoop contest and many more kid-friendly activities.

Approximately 100 volunteers helped make the event a success.

“Our VBS allowed preschoolers to attend as well,” VBS Director Jan Beamer said. “We had a Mommy and Me group where moms, dads, grandparents and additional family members could bring a child that is between 2 and 3 years old and participate with them.”

This group of toddlers was arranged in “family groups” so that all ages rotated and worked together all week.

The Methodist Church VBS also collects money for national/international mission projects in addition to collecting items for various local missions/ministries.

The first day of VBS kids collected 92 bottles of shampoo and 192 tubes of toothpaste for the Wylie Christian Care Center.

Tuesday, participants brought 870 Capri Sun drinks for The Big Feed at Wylie UMC, an event held to raise donations for children at South Fork Mobile Home Park.

Kids brought 115 small toys on Wednesday for the Rainbow Room at the Children’s Advocacy Center of Collin County.

Thursday’s participants brought in 55 nail files and 118 nail clippers to be used in Health Kits that are delivered to the United Methodist Committee on Relief for disaster victims.

The week wrapped up with participants contributing 370 glue sticks and 68 bottles of glue for the annual school supply drive for Wylie ISD students.

All money brought in throughout the week was donated to Operation: Spud2K – Heroes Against Hunger. In all participants donated $696.42.

For information on how you can give to any of the charities listed contact Jan Beamer at [email protected].
