Many soldiers received gift cards as part of the raffle and some of the prizes included seats from the old Dallas Cowboys Stadium.

The National Guard Armory in Wylie was bustling with more activity than usual Saturday, Dec. 3. Despite the cold rain, steaks were on the grill. The aroma drifted inside where volunteers were setting tables. At each place setting was a special card, colored and written by local children. A brightly lit Christmas tree was set with gifts all around it. Perimeter tables were brimming with all types of food and desserts.
An army of elves coordinated this special luncheon for 85 members of the National Guard. Their efforts enabled the servicemen and women to take a break from the rigor of their one weekend–per-month drills.
The idea came to fruition a few months ago when Tony Jacinto of the local nonprofit, His Gracious Hands, was attending a roundtable meeting at First Baptist Church. Kimberly Violet, an armory employee, let the group know that their scheduled steak and potato Christmas luncheon fell through due to a volunteer group pulling out.
