The cleanup of a contaminated Federal Superfund Site in Wylie officially drew to a close last week with a ceremony declaring that the property owned by the city is now ready to be used.
Signing the Ready for Reuse document were Mayor Eric Hogue and Environmental Protection Agency Regional Manager Ron Curry. Also attending was U.S. Rep. Pete Sessions who was instrumental in getting the city and EPA together for the project.
The site is located off FM 544 near Hwy. 78 and was the former home of Chemical Recycling, Inc., a firm that recycled paint for use in asphalt paving and went out of business in the 1980s. Solvents used in the process contaminated the property, making it unfit for use.
