Police say Wylie man used vehicle to intentionally strike victim

by | Jul 6, 2026 | Area News, Latest

A 19-year-old man has been arrested after police say he intentionally struck a pedestrian with a vehicle following an altercation Sunday afternoon, leaving the victim in critical condition.

The Wylie Police Department said the incident occurred around 3:38 p.m. July 5 after an officer was flagged down in the 800 block of Woodbridge Parkway regarding reports of vehicles possibly racing in the back of a parking lot.

As the officer investigated, authorities said he witnessed a vehicle-versus-pedestrian crash that had just occurred in the parking lot at 207 Security Court. Emergency responders were immediately called to the scene to assist the 20-year-old victim, who suffered a severe head injury.

According to the preliminary investigation, the victim and another man, identified as Rene Padilla, were involved in a verbal altercation before the crash. Police said the victim exited his vehicle during the disturbance and was intentionally struck by the vehicle Padilla was driving.

The victim was transported to a regional hospital in critical condition.

Investigators with the Wylie Police Department’s Accident Investigation Unit and detectives with the Criminal Investigation Division responded to process the scene and continue the investigation.

Padilla was taken into custody and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Police said the investigation remains active and additional or upgraded charges are expected as the case progresses.
