Hartman Elementary was recently recognized by the Texas Education Agency as one of the state’s high-performing and high-progress Title I schools for the 2014-’15 school year.

“The recognition as a top performing Title 1 school, represents the fruits of many long hours and structured support from superintendents, principals, curriculum coaches, teachers, teaching assistants, students and parents,” said Hartman Principal Shawna Ballast. “The staff at Hartman Elementary takes great pride in the relationships formed with parents, students and the community. Hartman is a family.”

A high-performance recognition is identified when a Title I campus shows distinctions based on reading and math performance. There were 31 high-performing campuses recognized from the Region 10 area, including Hartman Elementary.

Ballast said, Hartman staff meet weekly in professional learning communities to review the latest data and design interventions for struggling learners.

“The staff at Hartman hold high expectations and expect great accomplishments from their students,” she said. “The collaboration with colleagues and parents helps each “Cool Cat” reach their full potential.”

Title I schools are defined as campuses with a student population of at least 40 percent low-income.

To be considered a high-progress Title I school the campus must be in the top 25 percent in annual improvement and/or in the top 25 percent of those demonstrating the ability to close performance gaps based on system safeguards. Hartman Elementary was one of 33 high-progress schools in the Region 10 area, and one of the few schools to be identified on both lists.
