The Wylie volleyball team stepped out of District 9-6A play Tuesday for a non-district match against North Forney.
The Lady Pirates battled but they were unable to finish off the Lady Falcons in an 18-25, 25-22, 20-25, 25-17, 17-15 loss at North Forney.
It was the second time that Wylie (19-12) has played North Forney (22-10) this season. The Lady Falcons won the first match-up 25-21, 26-24 on Aug. 18 and overcame a 2-1 deficit on Tuesday to defeat the Lady Pirates for the second time over the last month.
Wylie posted 63 kills but hit at a .247 percentage.
Junior Julia Hudgins was brilliant in defeat, finishing with 23 kills, 19 digs and four service aces. Junior Aubrey DeGrate contributed 17 kills, four digs and three blocks. Junior outside hitter Keelyn Green had the volleyball version of a double-double with 12 kills and 14 digs.
Junior Jolene Bao had 23 digs to pace Wylie’s defensive efforts in the back row, followed by 13 from senior Livian Nesbit. Senior Olivia Royal dished out 37 assists while sophomore Berkeley Weidinger contributed 19 helpers.
Wylie is scheduled to resume district play at 5:30 p.m. Friday at South Garland (0-16, 0-7).
