The Texas Education Agency released their 2014-’15 Texas Academic Performance Report, showing Wylie ISD district test scores to be higher in all categories over Region 10 and state results.

The 18-page report yearly district report card indicates student success and where improvement is needed.

The class of 2014 had a graduation rate of 94.5 percent, where the region held at 87.7 percent and the state at 88.3 percent.

Assistant Superintendent Kim Spicer noted in her report to trustees at the January board meeting that the district’s high score brought up the Region 10 score significantly.

In College Ready English and Math categories, Wylie ISD scores were above the region and state scores.

“According to HB 5 you have to report to the state of Texas the number or percentage of kids that you have that are college ready,” she said. “Meaning that when they go to college they will not have to take any developmental or remedial courses, which we pay for as parents, but our children do not receive college credit for.”

Third grade Reading STAAR passing scores showed WISD at 92 percent and Region 10 and state scores at 77 percent.

The fourth grade reading scores were at 91 percent and 89 percent for WISD versus 75 and 74 for state. Writing scores for the region were at 72 percent and 70 percent for state.

The fifth grade reading scores sat nearly 10 points higher for Wylie ISD with the district at 97 percent passing and the region at 88 percent and state at 87 percent passing.

Science scores for fifth grade were almost 20 percentage points higher for the district at 91 percent and 72 percent for region and state.
